Laser TURP

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as prostate gland enlargement, is a common condition in older men. Although the enlarged gland is noncancerous, it can cause urinary problems such weak urine stream or flow that starts and stops. Sometimes BPH can result in infection, bladder stones or even reduced kidney function.

Fortunately, there is a procedure that addresses BPH: transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). This proven, common surgical treatment is performed (in theatre with a spinal) to improve urine flow and BPH symptoms.

Procedure Information

Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the most common and most proven surgical treatment for BPH.

The procedure is done for improvement in urine flow rates and symptoms. The procedure is performed mostly with a spinal and will be done in theatre.

The RevoLix 2 micron continuous wave laser has been specifically designed for Vaporization, Vaporesection and Enucleation of the prostate tissue.

Vaporization of the prostate is performed on small to medium prostates, while VapoResection and Enucleation is found to be much faster on large prostates.

With VapoResection, the laser is used to resect small pieces of prostate tissue.

With Enucleation, the laser is used to remove the complete lobes with the morcelation process afterwards. With both Vaporesection and Enucleation, the tissue is kept for histological purposes.
